The Coterie mourns the loss of Joette Pelster, who passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022. Joette had a lengthy and distinguished arts administration career that included serving as The Coterie's Executive Director for 28 years. Having also worked as marketing director for the Folly Theater, the first executive director of the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey (KCFAA), and assisting Pat Jordan in the 1997 restoration and reopening of the Gem Theater, her achievements were many and her impact on the performing arts in Kansas City was immense.
In memoriam, the family requests donations go to The Joette Pelster Visionary Fund at The Coterie Theatre to commemorate her legacy as a Kansas City arts visionary. This fund will help ensure that Joette's vision of sustainable Coterie programming and performance space improvements that benefit area families will be realized. Her inspiration helped drive The Coterie for nearly 30 years, and gifts in her honor will impact for many more.
