Internships

Get Involved

Join The Coterie family! We welcome undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent college graduates to apply for our exciting and competitive internships. Interns are an integral part of helping create high-quality theatre for the families of Kansas City while experiencing an all-inclusive look at the administration and management of a nationally-recognized, professional, nonprofit theatre company.

Summer Education Internships

The Coterie Education Department offers paid internships for college or graduate students studying in the fields of theatre for young audiences and/or theatre education. This unique internship allows students to be an integral part of the day-to-day operation of our extensive summer programming by working in administration, teaching classes, and assistant directing a student production throughout the summer. New theatre professionals will have the opportunity to work on various projects in the administration office and teach K-12 classes with professional teaching artists.

To apply for a Summer Education Internship, please send your resume and letter of interest to Theatre School Director Allison Nissley at anissley@coterietheatre.org.

Applications are closed for summer 2024 positions. Please check back in Fall 2024, for information and deadlines for next summer.

Marketing/administrative internships are available throughout the year, limited to one intern per semester and over the summer. Candidates should be at least juniors or seniors in college and must be available Monday-Friday for a minimum of 15-20 hours per week. Internships are unpaid but if available, interns may find additional employment as a house manager or box office assistant, depending on the needs of the theatre. Work schedules are flexible enough to accomodate part-time, outside employment, but an intern’s availability must fall within standard business hours (9am-5pm).

Interns assist on a variety of projects related to marketing, public relations, media relations and special events. Specific projects may vary based on experience and skill set but will likely include creating e-communications; researching, updating, and monitoring social media outlets and other misc. websites; distributing promotional materials; researching and assisting in conducting community outreach efforts; maintaining marketing archives and databases; and assisting in the creation of production playbills, press releases, and other marketing collateral. They may also assist other staff members on various audience building, education, group sales, or fundraising projects as needed.
