Accessibilty
At The Coterie, we believe everyone deserves a chance to experience the magic of live theatre. Performances and classes are open to young people and their families of all abilities. We are committed to removing obstacles and opening up new opportunities for people with disabilities. The Coterie is joyfully and boldly committed to welcoming performers and audiences of all types regardless of race, gender, age, or disabilities.
If anyone in your family or group has special seating needs for a performance (such as using a wheelchair, accommodations for the hearing or visually impaired, or sensory needs) please indicate this at checkout or contact the Box Office at (816) 474-6552.
If your young person needs accommodations for our Theatre School’s acting classes or performance camps, indicate this on your registration form or contact The Coterie’s education department at (816) 994-8832.
Mobility Disabilities
Located on Level one of the Crown Center Shops, The Coterie is wheelchair accessible along with the entire Crown Center complex. Courtesy wheelchairs are available through Crown Center Customer Service on level two of the Crown Center Shops. Visit Crown Center’s website for more information.
Parking
Accessible parking spots are available for patrons with disabilities on levels 2A and 3A of the Crown Center Shops retail parking garage. Two accessible parking spaces are also available on Grand Blvd., near the Crown Center Shops’ Grand Blvd. entrance, which is also wheelchair van accessible.
Restrooms
Two accessible family restrooms are available near The Coterie’s lobby on level one of the Crown Center Shops. Both include baby and toddler changing tables.
ASL Interpretation
Select performances are interpreted for audience members who are deaf or hard of hearing. These include:

Audio Description
Audio description involves the accessibility of the visual images of theater for people who are blind, have low vision or who are otherwise visually impaired. It is a narration service (provided at no additional charge to the patron) that describes the action taking place on stage. Spoken commentary and narration guides the listener through the presentation with descriptions of scenes, settings, costumes, body language and more. The user hears the audio description via a wireless device you can check out from our Box Office. Select performances feature audio description services. These include:

Sensory Friendly Performances
The Coterie offers sensory friendly performances for our patrons who are neurodiverse. These special performances feature modified lights and sound to make a more relaxed environment. We ask that our audience be flexible with their expectations so that neurodiverse audience members may interact with the story in the way that suits them best: which may include speaking, moving, or using devices throughout the performance. These include:

Sensory Kits
Patrons who would benefit from comforting sensory resources are invited to check out a complimentary Sensory Kit from our Box Office. Generously provided by Variety Children’s Charity of Greater Kansas City each kit contains:
- Noise-reducing headphones
- Weighted lap pad
- Light-reducing polarized sunglasses
- Handheld fidget toys, including a bubble popper and a hot/cold pack
